Dr. Ralph (R.J.) Emmett
Dr. Emmett is a board-certified and New York State licensed optometrist. He obtained his doctor of optometry degree from MCPHS School of Optometry in Worcester, Massachusetts. Before graduation, he completed multiple externship rotations where he was exposed to a wide-range of clinical experiences including OMNY Eye Services in New Jersey and the VA Hospital of Danville, Illinois. He gained experience in the treatment and management of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, as well as specialty co-management of pre/post-op patients within a high volume ophthalmology department. He also gained experience planning/managing vision therapy programs as well as primary care and contact lens management at his third externship site at EyeCare Associates of Connecticut. While in optometry school, Dr. Emmett was a member of multiple organizations including SAAO, AOSA, SVOSH and COVD.
Dr. Emmett obtained his Bachelor’s degree of Biology at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. There he majored in pre-medical biology and minored in biochemistry. He also obtained an Associates degree of Life Sciences at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania. While at Lackawanna, Dr. Emmett was a member of the nationally ranked Lackawanna Falcons baseball team that won two NJCAA D2 Region 19 Championships and went to the NJCAA DII Baseball World Series in Enid, Oklahoma, where the top 8 teams in the country compete.
By being a multi-sport athlete throughout his life, Dr. Emmett knows what it takes to perform at a high level and what each sport visually demands. He is excited to bring his experience and knowledge to the GCVP team!
